The state has yet been unable to adequately pursue the disappearance of Ahmed Rilwan, a journalist that has been missing since 2014, President Abdulla Yameen said.

President Yameen said in a speech at a ceremony held to commemorate the national security force’s 125th anniversary, that the government would use every resource available to it to complete the investigation into the case.

Further, he said that he ‘accepts’ that numerous cases of extreme importance have gone unsolved and that ‘large cases are not always solved even in other countries’.

As such, he noted the murder of parliamentarian Afreesheem Ali in 2012, for which the investigation is still ongoing.

“Similarly, state institutions have been working to find the truth behind Rilwan’s disappearance, they have taken a great many steps in this attempting to find those responsible as well – all have been to no avail” he had said.

He then highlighted an alleged attack on a vessel operated by the President’s Office – where a small blast had knocked open the door the speed boat’s deck, and no one was injured – to say that there will always be those that seek to be aggressors.
