A dangerous road accident in Laamu Gan has left an elderly man injured.

The accident which took place on the renowned Laamu Link Road, was reported to the Maldives Police Service (MPS) at around 12:15 on Saturday afternoon.

The accident occurred when a motorcycle and van collided into each other adjacent to Fonadhoo Airport.

Injured in the accident is a 56-year-old man who has attained various injuries to his chest and shoulder bone due to the blow, reports the police.

RaajjeMV understands that the man was taken to the Gan Regional Hospital for treatment on Saturday afternoon.

The hospital's Director Abdul Hannaan revealed that the man has a fractured arm and is required to undergo treatment on Sunday after which doctors will decide if he may be discharged.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

While the accident in Gan has left an elderly man injured, there has been a recent hike in similar road accidents, leaving many individuals injured, and some taking lives.

As such, just this morning, a fatal accident killed a 17-year-old boy near the Fish Market area in capital city Male’.

Police had earlier appealed on all drivers and riders to abide by road safety regulations when travelling, following the alarming hike in accidents.
