Former presidents Yameen and Nasheed
An amendment bill has been proposed to bar former presidents from contesting in the parliament elections.
The bill was proposed by Dhidhdhoo MP Abdul Latheef.
On Twitter, Kinbidhoo MP and joint parliamentary group leader Abdulla Riyaz said that Latheef did not discuss with the joint parliamentary group or Jumhooree Party MPs before proposing the bill.
Former President Mohamed Nasheed will be contesting the Central Mahchangolhi seat in April’s parliament election.
Former President Abdulla Yameen has also expressed interest in running in the parliament election. However, he has not confirmed a particular constituency he wishes to contest.
