The new government has received much praise after the executive branch publicized their financial statements

Ibrahim Hood, the President’s spokesperson, has said that financial statements of the executive branch will be more fully disclosed in the future.

The new government has received much praise after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Vice President Faisal Naseem, and members of the cabinet publicized their financial statements, marking a first in Maldives’ history.

However, some have criticized the move due to the lack of detail and transparency in the disclosure. They include Aiman Rasheed, the communications director of Transparency Maldives, who has been vocal in calling on politicians to publicize their financial statements.

Aiman praised the administration for publicizing the statements, but recommended that a state administration be tasked with verifying the information and to also disclose the financial details of the spouses, children, and family as well as disclosing details of the currently publicized financial statements.

He also called on the judges and parliamentarians to publicize their financial statements.

Spokesperson Hood said that the government will improve its method of disclosing the financial statements. He also said that everyone had signed their signatures and gave their fingerprints to the documents to verify its legitimacy but that and investigation if there are issues in any of the statements.
