Maldives Customs seized 232% more narcotics in 2018, compared to 2017.

In 2017, Customs seized 24 kilograms of narcotics through 25 operations.

Compared to this, Customs stated that they seized 32 kilograms of narcotics in 83 operations from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018.

Customs seized narcotics in 11 cases of drug trafficking attempts via air route, 68 attempts via post, three attempts via air cargo, and one attempt via sea route.

In 2018, Customs seized a total of 17,165.78g of cannabis, 10,840.69g of heroine, and 563g of cocaine. It also seized 664.26g of psychoactive substances, and 3,383.70g of psychotropic drugs.
