A vessel that left capital city Malé for Gan of Laamu atoll has run aground near the lighthouse in Kolhufushi island of Meemu atoll.

The incident was reported at about 21:30 on Thursday night, and officers of the Maldives National Defence had assisted in refloating it.

Officers say that the wave conditions in the area at the time were immensely choppy and that this may have caused the vessel to run aground the lighthouse.

The ‘Dhinasha’ was carrying cargo to Gan, and none of the crew were injured.
