The Department of Special Needs Education shall now be identified as the Department of Inclusive Education, the government has said.

The government has also changed the department’s mandate to provide education to all students according to the Education Ministry’s standards and provide support to local schools in order to facilitate equal access to education.

In this regard the department will be providing logistical support by training teachers and provided skill academics.

The government has also commissioned the establishing of ‘early inclusion’ and ‘early intervention’ systems, which are to be integrated into the Maldivian education system. The department will also be working to integrate teaching methods that assist ‘special needs’ children.
