The disaster management center is assisting two families after their houses became flooded due to heavy rain on Wednesday.

At a press conference on Wednesday, defence minister Mariya Ahmed Didi said the families are now under the care of disaster management.

She also said that the defence force is active in Male’ after heavy rain caused flooding in the capital city.

At the press conference, disaster management’s Ihsan Hassan said the police service and the red crescent are also active in relief efforts and asked for everyone’s support at this time.

149 millimeters of rain have poured onto Male’ alone due to the heavy rain that began on Wednesday morning and lasted until later in the evening.

This has caused some roads to flood up to the knees, preventing people from traveling by foot. RaajjeMV understands that some houses and stores have also been flooded.

The meteorological service has issued a white alert over heavy rain and thunderstorms in the region between Haa Alif and Vaavu Atoll, to be effective until 11pm, Wednesday.
