The Auditor General’s Office has announced that it has begun an audit of the state-run Housing Development Corporation (HDC), a company at the center of several corruption allegations.
Assistant Auditor General Ibrahim Aiman told RaajjeMV that the pre-audit assessment is complete and that the audit began this week.
“We have finished the necessary assessment, and began auditing the company this week”, Aiman said.
Assistant Auditor General Aiman said that the information on the results of the audit will be shared with the press.
The HDC, which acts both a public sector company authorized to trade as well as the administrative authority of Hulhumalé, is also being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Commission.
Allegations against the company include misappropriation of funds to develop the public pre-school in Hulhumalé and a charitable event held by former first lady Fathimath Ibrahim under her ‘Sadaqat Foundation’.
The company’s management is also accused to being involved in outgoing President Abdulla Yameen’s bid for re-election, and spending over MVR 30 million on his campaign.
