Umar says he will resist Nasheed’s attempt to introduce parliamentary system
 
After his return, Nasheed told the media that he has always believed that a parliamentary system is the most beneficial to Maldivians

Umar said that a parliamentary system is ‘unsellable’ and that citizens have refused to implement the system before

Former home minister Umar Naseer has said that he will resist former president Mohamed Nasheed’s attempt to change the Maldives government to a parliamentary system.

Speaking to the media, the former minister said that despite Nasheed’s attempt to ‘wreck’ the Maldives government, the people want a system where their voices are heard.

Umar said that a parliamentary system is ‘unsellable’ in Maldives and that citizens have refused to implement the system before.

Umar also said that the biggest obstruction to president-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s government is Nasheed and that his return to Maldives is a sign that the political situation in the country will only get worse.

After his return, Nasheed told the media that he has always believed that a parliamentary system is the most beneficial to Maldivians.
