Former Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim departed to Malaysia on Thursday night.
The former minister, who is serving an 11-year prison sentence for possession of an illegal weapon, departed to Malaysia after being granted medical leave by the correctional service, following a request of the human rights commission.

Nazim was last granted medical leave in 2016 when he sought treatment for an eye issue in Singapore.
His family repeatedly expressed concern over authorities refusing to grant him medical leave abroad.
The United Nation’s Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has deemed Nazim’s imprisonment unlawful and the Supreme Court ordered authorities to release him on February 1.
