Many residents in B. Thulhaadhoo came out to protest First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim’s visit on Wednesday.

The First Lady visited Thulhaadhoo, which has a large majority of main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) members, on Wednesday evening to gain support for President Abdulla Yameen for the upcoming presidential election.

Ruling party supporters gathered at the harbor to greet her. After her arrival, other residents gathered near the area to call for the President’s resignation and criticize the First Lady.

At the same time, ruling party supporters yelled “President Yameen 2018” but the First Lady was escorted away by security a short time after she began shaking hands with the supporters who gathered at the jetty to welcome her.
