Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that Maldives needs technology-driven options instead of “huge concrete sea walls and water breakers” to solve environmental issues.
In a tweet on Monday, the opposition leader shared a YouTube video of divers assembling a 3D printed reef in Summer island Maldives.
Commenting on the video, Nasheed said that 3D printing technology helps reef restoration and could also be a cheaper and more effective way to protect shorelines from erosion.

According to Summer Island, they have partnered with Reef Design Lab to design and build the 3D modular reef to study how corals colonize the new reef, and whether the technology can help coral reefs survive a warming climate.
