Imprisonment will not weaken resolve: Sheikh Imran
Imprisonment would not weaken his resolve, said Adhaalath Party Imran Abdulla

Imran was accused and convicted of terrorism

Imprisonment would not weaken his resolve, said Adhaalath Party leader Imran Abdulla - reiterating his commitment to the party’s reform efforts.

In his first tweet since the rally in May 2015, for which he is facing allegations for inciting violence, Sheikh Imran said that ‘the people and their resolve cannot be imprisoned’.

He was transferred to house arrest from his detainment for the 12-year jail sentence against him citing renovation work at the prison.

Imran was accused and convicted of terrorism, for having been one of the leaders in a large opposition rally on the 1st of May, 2015. His words had incited violence, prosecutors said.

The sentence has been appealed on the grounds that the court had omitted certain statements made by Imran’s defence.
