Minister of Environment Thoriq Ibrahim said that while Waste Management Corporation had faced some issues when starting garbage collection services, the service will be improved in the future.

Speaking in a press conference on Thursday in the Ministry, Thoriq said that up to August 2nd, 12,067 residences had registered for the service. He admitted there were some issues, but noted that major operations at the start always had issues. Minister Thoriq said that they will check which houses still had uncollected garbage and WAMCO will attend to it.

Minister Thoriq added that delays in communication was a key issue noted by applicants. He said the delays were caused as the call center had only eight lines. Starting Friday, he said the call center will be equipped with 61 lines. Minister Thoriq further noted that registration was still open.

WAMCO Managing Director Shifau said that 100 employees of the company are active in 10 zones in Male’.
