Opposition coalition’s Presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s running mate Member of Parliament for Kaashidhoo constituency Faisal Naseem has called on relevant institutions to investigate the discrimination in allowing equal opportunity for all contesting candidates in the upcoming Presidential Election.

Naseem said that it is being heard that some are allowed the benefits of state facilities and referring to ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM), Faisal said that the government’s wealth and facilities belong to all the citizens and not a particular group.

“We shared all of our concerns with them today. Would like to highlight that it is rumored that particular individuals are receiving the benefits of state facilities and the favoritism of government institutions to pave way for their win in the September election.” Said Naseem.

Stating that all parties contesting in the Presidential Election slated for 23rd September must be given equal opportunity, Naseem requested for an investigation into the persons who use state facilities by coercing government employees.

“While Maldives 53rd Independence Day is being celebrated, a way must be paved for Maldivians citizens to live in peace, they need a taste of true independence. For that way to be paved, the approaching election on the 23rd of September must be that of a transparent, free and fair one” said Naseem.

Solih and Naseem submitted their candidacy forms with the Elections Commission early on Thursday morning, which was not obstructed by the Maldives Police Service.
