State drops 'inciting violence' charges against three opposition aligned lawmakers
All proceedings connected to the charges have seized, prosecutors say
The lawmakers were arrested for their addresses at a Joint Opposition event
The three have been summoned and questioned by the police several times

The Prosecutor General’s Office has decided not to pursue charges of inciting violence the state put forth against MPs Imthiyaz Fahmy, Faisal Naseem, and Mohamed Ameeth.

The office told RaajjeMV on Wednesday that the decision to not pursue said charges was made and a request to seize all proceedings connected to them was filed on 23rd May.

However, reliable sources have informed RaajjeMV that this request was filed later than the date the office had given. The Prosecutor General’s Office has not revealed any further information.

Maafannu-North constituency MP Fahmy, Kaashidhoo constituency MP Naseem, and Maduvvari constituency MP Ameeth were arrested for their addresses at a Joint Opposition event.

The lawmakers had allegedly incited violence against the government by encouraging their supporters and constituents to express discontent with the government, at the event, held during Maldives’ 45-day state of emergency in February.

The three have been summoned and questioned by the police on a several occasions and barred from traveling out of the country.
