The decision was made at the behest of lawyers representing the defendants
Police said that Nizar had been beaten to death with iron bars and wooden planks
One of the suspects, 17-years at the time of the crime, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison

The Criminal Court has this week released three suspects in 31-year-old Ahmed Nizar’s multiple perpetrator murder, five years ago, from incarceration and put them on house arrest.

The decision was made at the behest of lawyers representing the defendants. The three men facing murder charges for their part in Nizar’s brutal killing are Hussain Sabir, Ahmed Shujaau, and Ahmed Sabaah.

Nizar and the defendants are all native to Gan island of Laamu atoll, where the murder was committed in the early hours of 15th July, 2013. His body was found at about 02:20am.

Police said that Nizar had been beaten to death with iron bars and wooden planks and officers had found these weapons disposed in a location close to where his body was found.

There have been several witnesses that place the suspects and number of others at said location.

The Criminal Court has found one of the suspects arrested in relation to the murder, who was 17-years-old at the time of the crime, to 16 years in prison. He had appealed the ruling, although the High Court had also upheld his conviction.
