Opposition leader and former President Mohamed Nasheed has warned President Abdulla Yameen against using their children for political purposes.
In a tweet posted on Saturday, the former president said that despite their children having the ‘strength’ to bear whatever comes their way, that penalizing them due to the political differences between the parents is not a ‘smart’ thing to do.
“I want to tell President Yameen, that this is a very dirty act,” added Nasheed.

The former President also called for the immediate release of Ibrahim Siyad Qasim, son of business tycoon and opposition Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim.
While the Villa Company’s managing director was arrested on 6th February, less than 24 hours after incumbent President Yameen declared a state of emergency across the country, Nasheed had called for his release then as well.
Siyad is accused of bribery, after documents found in Judicial Administrator Hassan Saeed’s home had allegedly implicated him in unlawful activities. His trial is to commence on Sunday, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for 3pm.
Days prior to the lift of emergency on March 22, Criminal Court had ordered to keep Siyad in remand until his trial concludes. He has since been transferred to Maafushi Prison, from Dhoonidhoo Detention Centre.
