The Criminal Court had on Wednesday night remanded former commissioner of police Ahmed Areef until sentencing.
The judge had ordered Areef to be remanded at any location decided by the Home Ministry, until the court concludes trial proceedings over the allegations made against him.
Areef was arrested on 6th March, on allegations of attempting to overthrow the government.
The Prosecutor General’s Office put forth charges against for using him influence within the police to support the Supreme Court ruling on February 1st.
Areef was dismissed shortly after the police revealed that they are working to implement the court order, on the night that it was issued.
Areef had been serving as commissioner of police since December of 2015.
