The judge overseeing MP Faris Maumoon’s bribery case has been switched.

MP Faris is on trial for allegedly bribing fellow lawmakers to sign an impeachment motion against pro-government Speaker Abdulla Maseeh.

While the trial has been stalled for a month, a hearing has been scheduled for Sunday after the case was transferred to another section of the Criminal Court. The case is now at Section E, which is overseen by newly-appointed judge Ahmed Hailam.

RaajjeTV was unable to contact the Criminal Court’s media official for a comment.

The two sides will be presenting their evidence on Sunday’s hearing.

Faris is also on trial on allegations of identity fraud for using the flag and logo of the ruling party and speaking on its behalf at a press conference.
