Mohamed Nadheem, son-in-law of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, is developing serious health issues since being jailed.
Nadheem was arrested on February 5, the night the government declared the State of Emergency.
In a tweet on Friday, his lawyer Mahfooz Saeed said he is suffering from diarrhea and dehydration since last week, and that he has not been provided clean water to drink.
He also said that Nadheem has yet to be questioned since his arrest and warned that those responsible will be held accountable.
Nadheem’s wife Yumna Maumoon has also expressed concern on Twitter. She said she hopes that a doctor will attend to him and that he will soon be provided with clean drinking water.
