Self-exiled former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that the Maldives Correctional Services (MCS) is yet to order him to return to Maldives, despite having informed them that his spine is better now.

Speaking on RaajjeTV’s ‘FashaaIru’ programme on Thursday, the former President said that his treatments have concluded, and that he has informed this to MCS. However, he added that the institution has not told him to return to the country.

“The Corrections Service has not told me to return, not even once,” he said, adding that he does not have any additional health issues.

Furthermore, Nasheed said that he hopes to run in the 2018 presidential elections, but that this “will be decided after discussions with the Joint Opposition”.

The former President reiterated that he will return to Maldives “even if President [Abdulla] Yameen remains in power”. He added that he does not see the incumbent President ‘remaining in power’.

Nasheed was sentenced to 13 years in prison in March 2015, after a 19-day trial on terror charges. He was granted medical leave in January 2016 and has been granted political asylum in the United Kingdom. He has since traveled to various countries including America, India and Sri Lanka.
