The doctor of jailed Supreme Court Justice Ali Hameed’s wife has recommended that she undergo surgery.
Fathimath Nasira was arrested on February 7 and is currently in island prison Dhoonidhoo.
Speaking to RaajjeTV, her lawyer Ali Abdul Latheef said they filed a case to the human rights commission after authorities failed to get her medical treatment.
The lawyer said that doctors had visited her at Dhoonidhoo on Saturday and recommended immediate surgery.
In a letter to the human rights commission, the lawyers said that blood samples tested at the Dhoonidhoo clinic showed that Nasira had urinary retention which has caused swelling in her legs.
In the letter, they also said that Nasira has been injured from fainting twice inside her cell.
Police are investigating Nasira on terrorism and bribery related allegations as well as influencing official duties and attempting to overthrow the government.
Her husband Justice Hameed is also being kept at Dhoonidhoo.
