RaajjeMV has learned that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has held individual meetings with several Members of Parliament from the People's National Congress (PNC), urging them to reconsider their stance on the Ras Male' project.
Reliable sources indicate that the President met with lawmakers who have been openly critical and vocal against the project. During these discussions, President Muizzu reportedly emphasized that maintaining their alignment with the government would require them to change their perspective on the initiative.
The meetings, which took place in Male' prior to the President's departure for Pakistan, reportedly involved 13 individual sessions with members of the parliament.
The lawmakers involved in these meetings include: Mohamed Shameez (Madaveli constituency), Ibrahim Shujau (Baarah constituency), Ahmed Azaan Marzooq (Central Hithadhoo constituency), Abdulla Rifau (South Maafannu constituency), Ashraf Rasheed (Faresmaathodaa constituency), Mohamed Aslam Ahmed (South Thinadhoo constituency), Mohamed Dawood (North Kulhudhuffushi constituency), Mohamed Musthafa Ibrahim (West Maafannu constituency), Ali Ashraq (Kinbidhoo constituency), Ibrahim Mohamed (North Machangolhi constituency), Husnee Mubarik (Manadhoo constituency), Ibrahim Naseem (Thulusdhoo constituency), and Mohamed Ali (Dhuvaafaru constituency).
While the meetings were officially framed as discussions regarding various development projects, the primary focus remained on securing legislative support for the Ras Male' project. However, it is reported that the lawmakers expressed significant concerns and grievances regarding the stagnation of development projects in their respective islands.
The Ras Male' project, which involves reclaiming Fushidhiggaru Lagoon, stands as one of the current administration's flagship developmental pledges. Nevertheless, reports of internal dissatisfaction among pro-government lawmakers regarding the project's progress and execution have been mounting. The President’s intervention is viewed as a strategic move to align the lawmakers’ positions with the government’s agenda.
It is also noted that the former Foreign Minister of President Muizzu’s administration, Khaleel, also recently raised several questions concerning the project.
