The Health Ministry has begun investigating the Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital in Naifaru island over allegations of negligence in a woman having lost her unborn child while being treated there.

RaajjeMV understands that the ministry has acquired the relevant documents from the hospital.

Deputy Director General of the ministry, Thasleemaa Usmaan, said that the investigation is being carried out of their own volition.

“We began the investigation after reports of it surfaced on media outlets, we received documents relevant to our investigation from the hospital this week” the deputy director general said.

Zaaimaa Ismail, who was treated at the hospital before travelling to capital city Malé, found out about the death of child from doctors at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

The date of passing is said to be 7th January, and the child was removed from its mother’s womb a week later on January 14th.

Mohamed Ahmed, Zaaimaa’s husband told RaajjeMV that doctors at the hospital in Naifaru told them that the fetus is alive and healthy, but was asked ‘to urgently seek treatment in Malé’.

Zaaimaa is also diabetic and had been treated at the ADK Hospital in the capital city, who gave her insulin injections. After having gone to Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital to get more, they told them that they cannot administer it on account of being ‘unfamiliar’.
