All suspects charged over the stabbing of lawyer Mahfooz Saeed have been released.

RaajjeMV understands that the three were released on Sunday. While they were released with particular conditions, RaajjeMV was unable to obtain any further details on the matter.

The case has been stalled due to the state's failure to present witnesses at the hearing held held by the Criminal Court.

Defence lawyer Mahfooz, who works closely with the opposition, was stabbed in the temple in the capital Malé City on the 4th of September 2015.

State had raised charges against Firaz Jaufar, Khalid Nafiu and Ahmed Raaid over the stabbing, on 8th February 2016. Raaid is charged with attempted murder, while the other two are charged with accessory.

Police are still looking for a fourth suspect, 23-year-old Shafraz Ibrahim. While police launched a manhunt for Shafraz in October 2015, even seeking Interpol's assistance in the matter, they are yet to apprehend him.

A team of four doctors, at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hsopital (IGMH), operated on Mahfooz after the stabbing. He was later transferred to Sri Lanka.

At the time of stabbing, Mahfooz was a member of former President Mohamed Nasheed's legal team.

Then Home Minister Umar Naseer condemned the "barbaric" attack on the government's behalf. He said that the attack comes "after a prolonged period of calm," adding "perpetrators will face justice".

President Abdulla Yameen had also expressed concern over the attack, saying that it was "disconcerting to see violent attacks being carried over political rhetoric
