A murder trial into the death of Mohamed Anas is to begin on Monday.

State has raised charges against six individuals- including a minor- over the 25-year-old's murder. Trials against five will take place at the Criminal Court, while the Juvenile Court will hear the case against the 17-year-old; he is charged with first degree murder. He is also charged with a separate assault case; for having stabbed an individual in front of the Supreme Court on the 25th of July.

Monday's hearing will be against the five at the Criminal Court, at 3 pm.

Ahmed Zayan and Usman Shareef is also charged with first degree murder; while Junaih Abdulla, Hassan Mahfooz and Simah Moosa as accessories to murder.

Anas, who had worked on a speedboat, was stabbed to death by a group of masked assailants on the 31st of July. CCTV footage shows him running into Litus Service Center in attempt to flee from his attackers. The brutal attack took place inside the garage.

He was stabbed in a number of places, and was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.

Not long after the gruesome murder, as police continued its investigation, President Abdulla Yameen said that the attackers had "mistaken him for someone else".

Police had also launched a manhunt for two suspects in connection to the murder, Mohamed Shaaz and Afrah Abdul Razzaq. They have since been arrested while in hiding, but the state is yet to raise any charges against the two.
