The Ministry of Islamic Affairs marked the Qibla direction on October 18 for the new mosque to be constructed in Sh. Feevah. The new facility will be built on the site of the island's current Friday Mosque, which is scheduled for demolition.
The island's Friday Mosque, which was built by the local community, is approximately 40 years old. The island council has now decided to demolish the structure to make way for the construction of a new mosque on the site.
To this end, the council has cleared the site, covered the necessary design and surveying costs, and finalized the Bill of Quantities (BOQ).
After the council had already finalized plans and completed significant preliminary work for the mosque's construction, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs pledged to the island's residents that it would undertake the project at its own expense. Furthermore, officials from the Ministry visited the island on October 18th of this year to perform the Qibla marking at the designated site for the new mosque.
Although this project has been awarded to a contractor, the council remains unaware of the scheduled completion date. Nevertheless, both the residents and the council are urging the Ministry to ensure the work is completed as swiftly as possible.
