According to the council, the lack of progress on the project has led to significant sedimentation in previously excavated areas, resulting in ongoing coastal erosion and damage to the island's shoreline.

Sh. Feevah Beach Development Project: Work halted after just five days of progress! | Raajje MV
The Shaviyani Atoll Feevah Island Council has expressed concern over the lack of progress on the island's swimming area development project.
Expressing his concerns in an interview with RaajjeTV, the Vice President of the Feevah Island Council, Ali Riza, noted that while the project was initiated in October 2025, physical works only commenced in November.
Riza stated that after two or three days of initial work, sand excavated for road reclamation was deposited at the site. He further noted that following a period of inactivity, work resumed around May this year, only to be halted again after some progress had been made.
We are once again faced with the necessity of dredging to the previous depths. Because this island’s coastline consists of sand that is constantly shifting, seasonal changes cause the sediment to migrate back into the basin. As this occurs, the island's landmass diminishes, making it necessary to reclaim that sand and move it back onshore if we are to maintain the area.Ali Riza
Emphasizing that the project should only have commenced after securing the site, Riza stated that the current approach has led to significant environmental damage.
Riza stated that although the vehicles brought in for the project are no longer on the island, the local staff hired for the work continue to report for duty daily, attending to minor tasks such as weeding.
This project was officially inaugurated by President Muizzu during his visit to Feevah in 2025. The project has been awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
