While encouraging accountability regarding government transparency and corruption, he urged all parties to refrain from actions that could jeopardize the long-standing ties with the nation's key development partners.

Former Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has stated that the Maldives' relations with friendly foreign nations are national ties that must be prioritized over the political interests of any specific party.
In a post on X on Sunday, Shahid stated that dragging close allies and long-standing development partners into the Maldives' internal political rivalries and partisan agendas is not in the best interest of the nation.
Emphasizing that this is not a matter of national interest, Shahid stated that the Maldives' own experiences have made it clear that foreign relations must be prioritized above the interests of any specific political party. He further noted that, as the opposition, their challenges and confrontations should be directed solely at the government.
Furthermore, Shahid stated that the opposition rejects the current administration's lack of transparency, its clandestine and illicit dealings, and policies that undermine the national interest. He also affirmed that they would continue to speak out against government corruption, inconsistent policy shifts, and the administration's failure to fulfill its pledges to the people.
Shahid stated that the party remains committed to holding the government accountable in the national interest, while ensuring that the long-standing friendly relations with other nations are preserved without any disruption.
