Former President of the MDP, Abdulla Shahid, has stated that every citizen he speaks with on every island he visits shares the same sentiment: a resounding "no" to the current administration and a rejection of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Speaking to the residents of K. Guraidhoo during his visit on Saturday, Shahid stated that the MDP remains the nation's oldest and most formidable political party, maintaining its strength consistently for 21 years.
Shahid stated that while opponents of the MDP’s ideology have claimed they would destroy and eliminate the party, they must now accept that such an outcome will not be achieved.
Over the years, those with opposing ideologies have repeatedly claimed and attempted to undermine this party, vowing to erase us, dismantle our organization, and bring our progress to a halt. They have persisted in these efforts through various means. However, it is now time for them to realize and clearly understand that such an outcome will never be achieved in this country.Abdulla Shahid
Shahid stated that the reality is now clear: the reformist ideology and spirit of this country can no longer be suppressed. However, he noted that the most disheartening issue today is the sense of despair expressed by every citizen he meets on every island he visits.
Shahid stated that the public is disillusioned by the current administration's actions, adding that there is no one today who does not believe that enough is enough. He further asserted that only the MDP can bring an end to these issues.
On every island we visit and from every person we encounter, the sentiment remains the same: a resounding "no" to this PNC government and a rejection of Dr. Muizzu. The people are saying they have had enough. They believe the country is being ruined and brought to its knees. There is a profound sense of unease among the public, who feel their livelihoods are being destroyed. Upon arriving here in Guraidhoo, the sense of despair is palpable. To the people of Guraidhoo, I must say: you are not alone. On every island we visit, we witness the same hopelessness and desperation.Abdulla Shahid
Shahid stated that he has one consistent message for all citizens: do not lose hope, as the MDP will return to power. He assured that with their return, the public's current disillusionment will come to an end.
Assuring that the MDP would pave a new path for development with renewed hope upon returning to power, Shahid stated that he holds great expectations for the public to stand with him in this endeavor. Shahid further noted that, drawing from his extensive experience, the mechanisms and pathways required to secure development assistance would become clearly visible under his leadership.
