Former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has strongly criticized the government, stating that allowing foreign parties to own land in the Maldives would undermine the fundamental pillars of the nation.
Speaking on a RaajjeTV talk show, Jameel stated that the alienation of Maldivian land is unacceptable. He emphasized the undeniable reality that allowing foreign ownership would inevitably lead to non-Muslims acquiring land. He further noted that if such a policy were implemented, the state would eventually be compelled to grant those individuals freedom of religion.
Jameel stated that there appears to be a desperate effort to find ways to grant religious freedom. He further noted that both the Minister of Housing, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, and the Attorney General, Ahmed Usham, have demonstrated a lack of direction on how to handle this matter. Additionally, he expressed concern over the fact that in a 100 percent Muslim nation, the Penal Code is being amended to prevent people from speaking about what is mentioned in the Holy Quran and Sunnah regarding Jews and Christians.
Jameel also highlighted relevant verses from the Holy Quran to further illustrate this point.
In Verse 82 of Surah Al-Ma'idah, it is revealed that the most intense in enmity toward the believers are the Jews and the polytheists. Furthermore, Surah Al-Baqarah states that the Jews and the Christians will never be satisfied with you until you follow their faith. Are we now to remain silent regarding these verses? Why must we be degraded to the point where the penal code is used to suppress the discussion of these divine revelations?Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed
Furthermore, Jameel criticized President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, asserting that the country has seen no development as his administration reaches its three-year mark. He questioned who granted President Muizzu the authority to allow Jews and Christians into mosques built within marinas. He further stated that allowing foreign entities to own Maldivian land undermines the core pillars of the nation and cannot be classified as progress.
