Former Member of Parliament for the Kendhoo constituency and legal expert Ali Hussain has stated that the public must take to the streets to protest against the current administration, accusing the government of attempting to undermine and dismantle the core values of Maldivian national identity.
Speaking at an emergency rally titled "Dhivehinge Bin Dhivehinnah" on Friday night, Ali Hussain stated that although only a small number of people took to the streets today, they all remain steadfast with the courage to defend the nation’s identity. He further emphasized that it is an absolute necessity to speak out against the efforts of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to undermine the country’s nationalism.
Furthermore, Ali Hussain recalled a conversation he had with a teacher during his school days regarding the fundamental pillars of Maldivian nationalism.
Ali Hussain stated that while the pillars of Maldivian nationalism are often defined as its people, language, history, culture, and Islam, the Maldivian land itself remains one of the most vital and inseparable foundations of that national identity.
In my response, I stated that the Maldivian land is one of the most vital pillars of our national identity. Indeed, the territory of the Maldives stands as a fundamental cornerstone of our nationhood. Following our Islamic faith, the Maldivian land remains the most significant pillar of our national identity.Ali Hussain
Emphasizing that Maldivian land must be preserved as an integral part of the national identity, Ali Hussain stated that street activism must be intensified to ensure this message is heard by the government.
