Former Vice President Faisal Naseem, a candidate contesting the MDP presidential primary, has met with members of the Maldivian community residing in Kochi.
During a meeting held on Wednesday, Faisal visited several residences of Maldivians living in Cochin. During these visits, he personally listened to the concerns and challenges faced by the community. Maldivians currently seeking medical treatment in Cochin highlighted significant difficulties in accessing healthcare services under the Aasandha national health insurance scheme.
Specifically, patients reported that despite receiving Aasandha authorization before departing Male’, certain medical expenses were ultimately not covered. They also highlighted significant delays, noting that it takes several hours to receive approval for requests submitted by hospitals to the Aasandha office. These issues have reportedly caused immense hardship for patients. Furthermore, they pointed out the difficulties in obtaining sufficient US dollars to cover their medical costs. These were among several healthcare-related concerns shared by Maldivians currently seeking treatment in Kochi.
Addressing public grievances regarding healthcare, Faisal stated that ensuring medical treatment and social security has been a top priority during every MDP administration. He further pledged that a future MDP government would reform the system to alleviate the hardships citizens currently face in accessing healthcare, ensuring a more streamlined and accessible service.
During his visit to the homes of Maldivians residing in Cochin, Faisal stated that every MDP administration has consistently prioritized decentralization. He emphasized that the party's focus remains on delivering services closer to the people through this system, fostering business growth, and ensuring access to high-quality education and healthcare for all citizens.
Faisal stated that any promise made to the public must be realistic and achievable. He emphasized that leadership should not be pursued through deceit or by peddling unattainable dreams, noting his commitment to speaking the truth.
