Former MNDF Male’ Area Commander Captain Ahmed Fayaz (Papa) has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration is attempting to govern by intimidating and terrorizing the public.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program, Fayaz stated that the current state of affairs in the country has reached an extremely concerning level. He noted that the public is being intimidated in every aspect, alleging that the government is exerting pressure on ordinary citizens, businesses, political parties, and independent institutions alike.
Fayaz stated that the current administration is actively working to suppress political parties' efforts to hold gatherings and express their views, particularly at a time when various forms of intimidation are being used to prevent the public from voicing their concerns.
Under the law, the mandate to oversee and regulate political activities and the formation of political entities is vested in the Elections Commission. However, this administration is currently obstructing the opportunity to conduct political activities. The government is attempting to govern by intimidating and terrorizing the public. But they will not succeed in doing so. The Constitution grants us these rights, including the freedom of assembly. These rights cannot be restricted by law. We will continue to hold protests and gatherings wherever possible.Ahmed Fayaz (Papa)
Fayaz stated that independent institutions today are profoundly disillusioned with the current administration. He further noted that the police and military have also grown weary of the government. He emphasized that the government cannot suppress the people from voicing their concerns.
Fayaz stated that the opposition will ensure the people's voices reach the government, adding that they will work tirelessly to achieve this goal. Furthermore, Fayaz announced that they intend to hold protests and public rallies.
