Applications for membership at the Elections Commission are now open. Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications by 12:00 PM on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
Application forms, declarations, and criminal record clearance forms for membership of the Elections Commission will be issued and accepted at the President's Office during the application period. Submissions will be processed on working days between 8:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. The announcement further states that the application forms and declarations are available for download on the official website of the President's Office.
Zahid, a former member of the Elections Commission (EC), was appointed as the commission's President on January 26, 2025. He is the first appointee to the role by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu following legislative amendments passed by the 20th People’s Majlis, which granted the President the authority to appoint heads of independent institutions.
However, he resigned shortly after the results of the referendum and the council elections were announced.
