Those currently in power are the very individuals named in MMPRC corruption scandal: Fayaz

Former MNDF Male’ Area Commander Captain Ahmed Fayaz (Papa) has stated that those currently in power are the very individuals included on the MMPRC corruption list.

Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program, Fayaz noted that senior government officials have been justifying the dismissal of employees from state institutions by accusing them of embezzling public funds. However, Fayaz questioned why these cases remain uninvestigated and why no funds have been recovered for the state if such allegations are indeed true.

Highlighting the substantial tax contributions made by the public to the state, Fayaz stated that the government is not undertaking any projects that benefit the citizens with these funds. He further alleged that these funds are instead being utilized by high-ranking government officials.

We have witnessed this administration abruptly dismissing heads of various institutions simply for voicing criticism. The government justified these removals by alleging thefts amounting to hundreds of millions of rufiyaa. However, what has actually been investigated? Has a single cent been recovered? How can they recover any money when those currently in power are the very individuals named on the MMPRC scandal list? We are deeply concerned today. While the public is burdened with heavy taxes, they receive no return on their contribution. Instead, these funds are being funneled directly into the pockets of those in power.

Noting that Island Aviation was a multi-million rufiyaa profit-making enterprise during President Yameen’s administration, Fayaz stated that despite the current government acquiring several new aircraft, the company is now operating at a loss of millions of rufiyaa.

President Muizzu continues to maintain that the current adverse effects on the nation's economy are a direct result of the previous administration's negligence. In response, Fayaz stated that with President Muizzu’s government now in power for over two years, they should have been able to resolve the issues inherited from the previous administration.

During the recent Independence Day assembly, President Muizzu declared that his administration would be the most proactive in investigating and enforcing anti-corruption measures. However, allegations of widespread corruption have surfaced regarding the government's ongoing township projects and the Malé Taxi Line initiative in 2025 alone. While these cases have been formally submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the commission has yet to take any meaningful action on the matters.
