Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has stated that although facilities such as the swimming track should be under the jurisdiction of the Male' City Council, the government is allowing these sites to fall into disrepair by refusing to hand over their management.
After visiting the Male' Swimming Track area and meeting with those present, Mayor Azim requested the government to grant the City Council the authority to manage the facility. Azim further alleged that the government is neglecting the site and allowing it to fall into disrepair.
Noting that the Male’ Swimming Track is a popular spot for children, Mayor Azim stated that the facility has deteriorated to the point where structural cracks and damage pose a significant risk of serious injury to young swimmers.
In a place like Male’ and the Maldives, where there is such a profound passion for swimming, it is deeply concerning that the current state of affairs in the city remains as it is. Our point is simple: you cannot monopolize every sector while failing to deliver results. Nothing is being developed in Male’, nothing is being done in Villimale’, and nothing is happening in Hulhumale’. Yet, they insist on maintaining their grip on power and control over these areas.Adam Azim
Mayor Azim stated that an MDP government would work to resolve these issues. He further pledged to establish a system for regular maintenance and monitoring to ensure a permanent solution.
