Government obstructing efforts to resolve challenges faced by vessels traveling from islands to Male': Azim

Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has stated that the government is obstructing the City Council's efforts to resolve the challenges faced by vessels traveling to the capital from the islands.

Following a meeting with crews from island vessels, Mayor Azim stated in an interview that the current administration lacks the genuine intent to resolve the issues at hand. He further noted that without such intent, progress remains unattainable.

Noting that the Male' City Council has received numerous complaints regarding the challenges faced by vessels arriving from the islands, Mayor Azim stated that the government is not providing the opportunity to resolve these issues.

Every time we attempt to make improvements, the government deliberately creates obstacles and works to destabilize the entire situation. This is a recurring pattern of interference. Most recently, they have seized a portion of the harbor area that was under our management. By continuously reclaiming land and shifting boundaries in this manner, it is clear they have no sincere intention of reaching a permanent solution.

Azim stated that current operations, where vessels complete only one trip per period, make it difficult to sustain salary payments. He noted that the fleet must complete at least three trips per month to achieve profitability.

Azim stated that he possesses both the understanding of the issues and their respective solutions, adding that these challenges cannot be resolved without working alongside Faisal Naseem.
