Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has stated that the current administration has seized the public transport improvement project after the City Council conducted a study and prepared for its implementation.
In an interview conducted after traveling with RTL bus passengers to hear their concerns firsthand, Mayor Azim stated that had the bus services been improved based on the study conducted by the Male' City Council, many of the challenges currently faced by the public could have been resolved through significant progress.
Noting the high demand for bus services in the Greater Male' area, Azim stated that when the City Council initially planned to launch its own taxi service, Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen met with him and requested that they refrain from doing so, urging them instead to focus on improving bus services.
"We provided them with the necessary studies, yet they disregarded our advice and failed to introduce the bus services as planned. Instead, they brought in taxis that are now failing to provide adequate service. What you are witnessing today is a situation where these taxi operations are being subsidized directly by the state budget."Adam Azim
Furthermore, Mayor Azim stated that the manner in which Male' City Council was managed during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's tenure as Mayor proves that he is incapable of resolving the nation's current issues.
Azim stated that the transportation system in the Male' region would be strengthened under an MDP administration.
