Azim: MDP Government Will Ease Cargo Clearance and Lower Prices

Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has stated that an MDP government would resolve the existing challenges in clearing goods and lead to a reduction in the prices of commodities.

During a meeting with workers at the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) area, Mayor Azim stated that parking remains one of the most significant concerns for those employed in the vicinity. The Mayor further noted that the current location of the port itself contributes to various ongoing challenges.

Mayor Azim stated that current delays at the port are causing financial losses for laborers, drivers, and business owners.

During our visit here, laborers and drivers have shared the significant losses they face due to port delays, which ultimately result in substantial financial burdens for the entire business community. God willing, an MDP government will provide a definitive solution to these issues. Once resolved, the cost of goods for the Maldivian people will decrease drastically. Currently, the situation is so dire that vessels arriving here are unable to unload their cargo, forcing them to travel to Sri Lanka and back just to deliver a single container.

Mayor Azim stated that the MPL port has the potential to be transformed into a highly efficient and productive operation, which would ultimately lead to a reduction in the prices of goods. He further pledged that a future MDP administration would implement a robust and comprehensive solution for the MPL port area.
