Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has criticized the current administration, stating that it lacks any coherent trade policy and is merely attempting to raise funds by selling off various assets at its own whim.
Mayor Azim made these remarks following a meeting with taxi drivers on Thursday to address their concerns. During the meeting, Mayor Azim stated that the parties previously contracted to develop parking buildings during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s tenure as Mayor lacked the necessary capacity to execute the projects. Furthermore, Azim noted that some of the land plots allocated for the construction of these parking buildings do not fall under the jurisdiction of the City Council.
Mayor Azim stated that intervening in private sector business activities is not a policy of the MDP.
The current administration has regressed by 60 to 70 years. They lack any coherent vision or economic policy. Instead, they appear to be operating on whim, desperately attempting to generate revenue by selling off whatever they can lay their hands on.Adam Azim
Azim stated that there is no visible benefit to the public from the government-introduced taxi line. He further noted that despite assurances that taxis would be easily accessible following the launch of the service, citizens are unable to secure a ride even after repeated attempts to call.
Furthermore, Azim stated that the government should only engage in businesses that are beyond the capacity of private citizens to undertake.
