To show respect to the public, this administration must first stop spreading falsehoods and cease the wasteful expenditure of public funds: Mayor Azim

Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has stated that respecting the public begins with honesty, asserting that the current administration must cease its practice of deceiving the people.

Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program, Mayor Adam Azim remarked that "respect is earned by giving respect," while accusing President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu of repeatedly lying to the public. He further stated that instead of wasting millions of rufiyaa on various programs and installing billboards featuring advisory messages, the government should show genuine respect to the citizens by putting an end to its practice of deception.

Furthermore, Mayor Azim stated that the squandering of state funds as personal property must cease while the citizens remain in a state of hardship.

Highlighting the progress of rural development projects, Mayor Azim noted that three years have passed since the road construction project in AA. Thoddoo was awarded, yet not a single paving stone has been laid. He characterized the repeated false claims that work is about to commence as an insult to the island's residents.

Furthermore, the Mayor stated that public funds are being distributed through the creation of irresponsible jobs across various islands. Mayor Azim emphasized that tax revenue should instead be spent in ways that ensure direct benefits and prosperity for the citizens.

We are witnessing the reckless squandering and waste of public tax money without any regard for its value. This is a deeply concerning situation and one that we simply cannot accept. Every cent of the people's money must be spent in a manner that benefits the public and enhances their well-being. However, the reality we are seeing today is quite the opposite.

However, he noted that efforts are being made to cut the 5 percent of the budget currently allocated to local councils—funds that provide direct services to the public—while the government has failed to deliver adequate services despite controlling the remaining 95 percent.
