Ras Male' Project: President Muizzu will face bitter consequences for betraying the religion and the nation, warns Sheikh Imran

Former Home Minister and former President of the Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Imran Abdulla, has warned that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu himself will face bitter consequences for betraying both the religion and the nation.

Sheikh Imran made these remarks in a post on X on Monday.

He stated that, in light of the unfolding and uncertain developments, the time has once again come for the Maldivian people to set aside political ideologies and stand united in defense of the nation.

Furthermore, Imran noted that throughout the Maldives' long history, whenever challenges have arisen against the nation's independence and sovereignty, the Maldivian people have consistently stood up to confront those threats and protect the country.

"Particularly when looking at the recent history of this country, President Muizzu must understand one thing clearly: the consequences of betraying our religion and nation will be bitter, even for him personally," Sheikh Imran stated in his post.

Sheikh Imran’s remarks come at a time when opposition figures and religious scholars are expressing growing concern over the Muizzu administration’s decision to grant 500 hectares of land in Ras Male' to Eagle Hills for a 99-year period. While Minister Muththalib stated that the government would not receive an immediate payment from this opaque agreement—details of which remain undisclosed—and that benefits would only materialize years later, President Muizzu has maintained that the land was merely leased. Amidst these conflicting narratives, financial experts and opposition parties are calling for a comprehensive audit of the agreement and demanding full transparency regarding the true nature of the deal.

Furthermore, a petition has also been filed with the Supreme Court seeking the annulment of this agreement.
