Dr. Ahmed Shamheed, the Member of Parliament for South Hulhumale' and a candidate in the MDP presidential primary, has stated that despite a manifold increase in state revenue, the failure to provide even the most basic water and sewerage services to the public represents a significant failure.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fashaairu" program, Dr. Shamheed stated that despite his extensive involvement in politics, the Maldivian people have yet to experience the future they truly envision for the country.
Dr. Shamheed noted that despite the increase in state revenue, basic services have not been established for the citizens. He highlighted that while the state's monthly revenue was around 200 million Rufiyaa in 2010, it has now reached 4 billion Rufiyaa.
Dr. Shamheed described it as a massive failure, noting that despite the substantial increase in funds, even basic necessities such as water and sewerage systems were not established for the citizens. He further stated that no meaningful efforts were made toward genuine nation-building or human development.
Shamheed stated that the current administration is also focused on advancing its own agenda rather than addressing the actual needs of the people.
Dr. Shamheed stated that the consistent failure to fulfill pledges and provide basic services to the people highlights the urgent need for fresh perspectives and innovative thinking. He emphasized that true progress, development, and the protection of citizens' rights can only be achieved through such a shift in approach.
Dr. Shamheed stated that his previous bid for Parliament was driven by a genuine desire to serve the people. He emphasized that he now seeks to serve the public in the highest policy-implementing role as President of the Republic.
