MDP activist Shamin’s detention extended by 3 days!

While police have submitted evidence to support the charges, Shamin’s family has called for his immediate release, maintaining that he is not a criminal.

The detention of MDP activist Mohamed Shamin, who was arrested in connection with a protest held by the party on Friday night, August 28, has been extended by an additional three days.
He was arrested under a court order on allegations of crossing a police barricade to enter a restricted area. Following his arrest, he was initially remanded in custody for a period of 10 days.
Following the expiration of the initial period, the individual was brought before the court on Saturday, where a further three-day remand was ordered.
Speaking to RaajjeMV regarding the matter, a member of Shamin’s family stated that it is unjust to arrest and criminalize him for participating in a protest, emphasizing that he is not a hardened criminal. The family has called for his immediate release.
The court order issued in this case stated that he was taken into custody for the safety and protection of the community.
Additional allegations against him include property damage, obstruction of justice, and obstructing a law enforcement officer.
Police have submitted several pieces of evidence against the suspect, including snapshots from CCTV footage, statements from officers who attended the scene, and an intelligence report.
