President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu officially presented the party's presidential ticket to Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Speaker of the People's Majlis and Chairperson of the PNC, during the closing ceremony of the PNC Congress held at the Social Centre on Friday night.
A resolution has been submitted to the People’s National Congress (PNC) Senate to grant President Muizzu the party’s 2028 presidential ticket without a primary. The resolution was passed unanimously by the 1,119 members attending the party’s congress. The vote was conducted via a show of hands by the delegates in attendance.
The resolution states that since President Muizzu assumed office, he has undertaken significant national initiatives that have been met with public appreciation. It further noted that the administration is responsibly managing the nation's debt obligations in a manner that avoids placing an undue burden on the citizens.
Furthermore, since assuming office, President Muizzu has been spearheading extensive efforts to advance national development, improve the standard of living for citizens, and safeguard national sovereignty. His administration also remains focused on fortifying the economy and enhancing social well-being.
