No citizen has lost their life due to negligence since President Muizzu assumed office: Shujau

Ibrahim Shujau, the Member of Parliament for the Baarah constituency, has stated that no youth or citizen has suffered a fatal incident resulting in loss of life since President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assumed office.

Shujau made these remarks while speaking at the PNC Congress.

Shujaau stated that prior to President Muizzu assuming office, there were frequent incidents of youth being fatally stabbed; however, he noted that no such life-threatening incidents have occurred since the President took power.

Furthermore, Shujau highlighted several key reasons why President Muizzu deserves a second term, noting that the President has assured the public he will ensure the implementation of retaliatory justice in the country. He further pointed out that no previous Maldivian leader had the courage to enforce such measures.

Shujau highlighted President Muizzu’s patient and attentive listening to the concerns of every citizen as another key reason why he deserves a second term. Furthermore, Shujau stated that a second term is essential because President Muizzu has decided to implement the death penalty for drug traffickers smuggling narcotics into the Maldives.

President Muizzu must be granted a second term because he has assured the Maldivian people that capital punishment (Qisas) will be enforced in this country. This is something no previous leader of this nation has dared to do. Before President Muizzu took office, young people were being murdered; however, since his administration began, not a single youth or citizen has lost their life to violence. There have been no further incidents of stabbings or fatal knife attacks.

Shujau stated that it would be a matter of great regret if President Muizzu is not re-elected for a second term in 2028. He emphasized that granting the President another term is essential if the citizens wish to live in peace and prosperity.

Shujau’s remarks regarding these deaths come amid a recent surge in knife attacks and various other criminal offenses across the Maldives. Additionally, several unexplained deaths have been reported. As these incidents continue to rise, public concern and apprehension have intensified, particularly following the deaths of several young people attributed to negligence.

Regarding the implementation of the death penalty, President Muizzu stated on March 23rd that capital punishment is now a necessary measure for the administration of justice. He noted that a bill being drafted by the Attorney General’s Office regarding the matter is currently in its final stages. There are several individuals in the Maldives who have exhausted all legal avenues of appeal and are awaiting the execution of their death sentences. President Muizzu remarked that although previous administrations had pledged to carry out these sentences, the penalty has yet to be enforced.
