EC denies PNF allegations and condemns the claims

The Elections Commission has dismissed allegations that members of the People’s National Front (PNF) are being removed from the party's registry without their knowledge, labeling the claims as false.
In a press release, the Elections Commission stated that since the inception of political party recruitment in the Maldives, there have been persistent complaints regarding individuals being registered to or removed from party rosters without their knowledge or through fraudulent means. The Commission further noted that it is currently investigating such cases and taking necessary measures to address these issues.
The Commission stated that as part of ongoing efforts to find a permanent solution to this issue, several reforms have been implemented following consultations held at various times with political parties and relevant authorities. In this regard, the Commission noted that since the integration of eFaas into party membership processes, every citizen has been empowered to join or resign from a political party of their own volition through their personal eFaas accounts.
The Elections Commission stated that joining or resigning from a political party is a transaction strictly between the individual and the respective party. The Commission further emphasized that this is a decision made within the bounds of individual liberty and personal choice, without the involvement of any third party.
The Elections Commission has stated that the current system does not permit the Commission or any other entity to remove an individual from a political party or transfer them to another party without their knowledge.
The Commission stated that it strongly condemns the false allegations made by the PNF, noting that such claims are intended to mislead the public and undermine confidence in both the Elections Commission and the political party membership system.
Furthermore, the Elections Commission has advised and urged all parties to refrain from spreading misinformation and to conduct their political activities with a sense of responsibility.
